Vaporetti (water buses)

Moving about the lagoon is a unique and fascinating experience, but requires adequate vessels and professionalism.

We recommend using the public transport service, ACTV, the company which has been organising and managing public transport in the city and province for more than a century.  Among Italy's most important and reliable public transport companies, it has a particularly large fleet of boats and buses, controls the efficiency of all craft and vehicles scrupulously and entrusts them to drivers of proven experience.

Gondola

The gondola is the most well-known type of Venetian boat. Until the advent of the motorboat, the gondola was the most widespread form of transport in the city

Nowadays they are mainly used by tourists, but there are still a number of points along the Grand Canal where you can cross from one side to the other in a barchetta rowed by two oarsmen.

Taxi

Private water taxis can take you almost anywhere in the city or the lagoon.

They can carry a maximum of 12 people and are the fastest way to get aroung Venice, but they are also the most expensive.
